Prof. Umasankar Mohanty,
B.P.T (Hons), M.P.T (Manual Therapy), S.R.P (London), M.I.S.E.P, M.I.A.P, F.A.G.E is the founder and Chairman of Manual Therapy Foundation of India®. He is the member of International Society of Educators in Physiotherapy (under WCPT) and life member of Indian Association of Physiotherapists. He completed his Bachelors Degree in Physiotherapy from Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research, Cuttack, Orissa and completed Masters in Manipulative Therapy from Manipal College of Allied Health Sciences, Manipal. He has been trained under faculties of Loma Linda University (USA), Orthopedic Medicine International (Belgium), McKenzie Institute (USA), University of Queensland (Australia) and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (UK). He recently organized the 1st World Congress on Manual Therapy (WCOMT2007) at Mangalore, India. He has presented several research papers in Manual Therapy at International and National level Conferences.

He is one of the Editorial board members of Indian Association of Physiotherapists for the section Manual Therapy. He has several publications in the Journals and newspapers. He conducts regular programmes in Manual Therapy (Integrated approach) at different places Nationally and Internationally. He is a Guest faculty to S.D.M. College of Physiotherapy, Dharwad, J.K.K. Munirajahh College of Physiotherapy, Erode, K.G. College of Physiotherapy, Coimbatore, Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad, Integrated Manual Physical Therapy, Manila (Philippines), VSPM'S College of Physiotherapy, Nagpur, SIM's College of Physiotherapy, Guntur, Rajiv Gandhi College of Physiotherapy, Bhopal and METAS of Seventh Day College of Physiotherapy, Surat. He has excellent background and reputation as a Manual Therapy teacher.

WORK EXPERIENCE   

Worked as Professor of Physiotherapy at Srinivas College of Physiotherapy, Mangalore affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences from 16th Sept 2004 till February 2007. Did Research work on Transcranial Doppler and Acromioclavicular Joint Dysfunctions. Details are cited in presentations. 

Worked as Asst. Professor at Laxmi Memorial College of Physiotherapy, Mangalore from 24th Oct 2001 to 15th September 2004. Had responsibilities of teaching the Post-graduate students, final year and 2nd year B.P.T. students. Did several research works on Pelvic Girdle and basic fundamental researches in manipulative Physiotherapy.   
 
Worked as P.G. cum Tutor in College of Allied Health Sciences, Manipal, from 1.12.1999 to 7.10.2001. Had the responsibilities of teaching the undergraduate students of Physiotherapy, orientation classes for the M.B.B.S. students and M.Sc. Nursing students. Did extensive research on the mobilisation of the cervical spine and presented a paper on “The role of Spinal Manipulative Therapy (SMT) and Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) in the management of segmental vertebral cellulotenoperiosteomyalgic syndrome of the neck” in the 39th conference of the Indian Association of Physiotherapists held at Delhi. Joined in Quality of life Research and Development foundation for the rehabilitation of the victims of the Super-cyclone which hit Orissa on Oct.28th 1999.  

Worked as Clinical Instructor in Dept of Physiotherapy, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore from 08.01.1999 to 30.11.1999. Had responsibilities of teaching the final year, third year and second year students. Had exposure of work in Intensive Care Unit (Neonatal, Medical and Surgical). Was consultant for the temporomandibular joint clinic, did extensive study in Mobilisation (Maitland’s approach of the temporomandibular joint). Did research work on the thoracic spine pain and published an article titled “The efficacy of manual therapy in management of the T4 syndrome” in the official journal of Indian Association of Physiotherapy Vol.44, No2. Did studies on mechanism shoulder injury of the Indian cricket team captain Mohummad Azharuddin and gave interview in Times of India, Bangalore Edition 20th Oct 1999.  Was selected as the co-ordinator of the community programme of the “Handigodu syndrome” under the economic development programme sponsored by Corporation Bank, Mangalore.

  • Attended 42nd conference of IAP at Jaipur, Rajastan from 13th  Feb-15th  Feb,2004 and presented a research paper titled The Effect of joint manipulation in increasing the joint play of a typical synovial joint : a Roentgenographic study”.
  • Attended 44th Conference of IAP at Ahmedabad and presented two research presentations titled “ A trial into the effectiveness of manual therapy in the management of Acromioclavicular Joint(ACJ) Dysfunctions-A randomized controlled study and The effect of Premanipulative neck movement testing on Vertebral Artery Haemodynamics: A Transcranial Doppler(TCD) Study.”  The first topic was awarded the “Best Research Paper in Manual Therapy”.
