Workshop Objectives
At the completion of the 2 Days workshop the participants will be able to:
1. Discuss the current best evidence relating to High Velocity Low Amplitude Thrust Techniques.
2. Describe the risks and benefits of HVLAT techniques.
3. List absolute and relative contraindications of HVLAT techniques.
4. Discuss the evidence supporting the use and interpretation of clinical tests for Vertebrobasilar insufficiency.
5. Discuss the rationale for the use of HVLA thrust techniques.
6. Describe and demonstrate the spinal positioning and locking in different regions of the spine necessary to ensure patient comfort, safety and the effective delivery of HVLA thrust techniques.


Workshop Contents


Day1:

Eras of development in Physiotherapy, Introduction to Manual Therapy ( Different Schools of Thought), Manual Therapy: Definitions, Indications and contraindications, Biomechanical Principles in Manual Therapy(Fryette’s Laws, Concave-Convex rule, Close pack and Loose pack Positions, Joint status gradings), Barrier concepts , Assessment of dominant eye.
Hand posture and skills, Contact points of manipulators hand, Flicking Techniques ( Triceps flick, Double triceps flick, Wrist flick), Thrusts( Pectoralis thrust, Shoulder arm pull thrust, Body drop), Concept of somatic dysfunction, Rhythmic Techniques( articulation and springing, Low velocity stress techniques, Modifying factors in techniques.
Cavitation mechanism ,Rationale for the use of HVLA thrust techniques
Complications/Contraindications/Safety Principles of spinal positioning and locking - coupled motion model , VBI and tests for upper cervical instability, Kinematics and coupling - cervical spine, Spinal positioning and locking - cervical spine, Cervical techniques

Day 2:
Kinematics and coupling - cervicothoracic spine Cervicothoracic positioning and techniquesThoracolumbar and lumbosacral techniques
Kinematics and coupling of Thoracic Region, HVLAT Techniques for the Thoracic Region and Rib Cage.Emphasis on final minor adjustments, use of momentum and minimal leverage positioning.

Kinematics and coupling of Lumbar region,HVLAT Techniques for the Lumbar Region,Emphasis on final minor adjustments, use of momentum and minimal leverage positioning.Biomechanics and Pathomechanics of the Pelvic Complex, Innominate, Sacral and Pelvic Complex Dysfunctions,   HVLAT Techniques for the Pelvic Complex,Emphasis on final minor adjustments, use of momentum and minimal leverage positioning.
 
Biomechanics of the Temporomandibular Joint(TMJ) and various thrust techniques for dysfunctions, Dysfunctions of the Elbow and Wrist joint and the High Velocity Techniques for the same.Pathomechanics and HVLAT  techniques of the Hip, Knee and the Ankle Joint.
